Zine Creation
At the beginning of the school year, we created a small paper zine on any topic of our choice. The main purpose of this assignment was to gain and present basic design skills as a warm-up assignment for future project portfolio creation.
I chose the music band System of a Down for my project, as my chosen project was a music video. I decided it would be a great opportunity to practice my skills in illustrating the specific artists, their music, and overall creativity in terms of design and art. In my zine, I talked about the band's basic history, the meanings of their songs, their purpose, and took a look at each member separately. As SOAD is one of my favorite music bands, I wanted to attract more attention to them and their music, creating my zine more for advertising purposes.
The approach I chose to create my zine was a collage and mixed media style. I printed out several pictures of the band and other illustrations, typography, and textures that I wanted to use in my zine. I mixed and matched elements to create a chaotic but holistic design. As the main represented elements, I chose the name of the band and its logos, the names of the songs, and pictures of the band members.
For the cover used the hand from the "System of a Down" album the name of the song in the left upper corner and the phrase from this song.
