“Blade Runner” 1980

By the overall used decorations and props we can understand it is futuristic scenery. The absence of natural light and abundance of artificial light gives the hint that it is night time. In terms of atmosphere the shallow focus creates a mysterious and enigmatic mood. The scene is full shot with one character standing in the center, which illustrates the loneliness of the character. Character wears dark clothing which is almost invisible in light abundance, representing that he is not noticed by the surrounding world. The scene is filled with details and props around the corners, however around the character there's lack of props, which highlights the feeling of solitude and calmness. As the character is the only human being in the shot, his position and posture creates a feeling of confidence and equanimity.

The two close up shots is prevailing with props presenting the 19 century. Everything tells that it's a Europe of that time. The overall atmosphere is cozy and accommodating. The shallow focus, which appears by accident as it is the old movie, provides the scene with soft unity. Characters are not speaking, but are thinking, it creates the mood of tranquility. The focus point of the scene is the fireplace in the background, however the characters are highlighted by the light. The sharp shadows emphasize the characters' figures, therefore they are the main attention anchor for the audience as well. The dining table and cutlery let viewers know that the characters are in the living room, thus the frame is very hospitable and inviting.

The scene is established in warm pink and red colors which symbolizes love and passion. The lighting appears from the table lamps and candlesticks, which creates a pleasurable atmosphere of coziness. The frame is over the shoulder shot in which the male character is sitting back to the viewer. The overall focus is on the female character, as she conducts the sensuality and sexuality of this shot. The whole scene is in one total color, while male character is distinguished and doesn't fit the overall environment. The fact that he is not looking at the viewer tells us that we don't know his feelings, he is not showing them, therefore it is not mutual to the girl.
